MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis woman is facing multiple criminal charges after the death of a 3-year-old child.
Dominica Mosby, 29, has been charged with first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, and aggravated child neglect. Authorities said the charges stem from an incident last Saturday, when the child’s father found the boy unresponsive at a residence. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.
Court records indicate that Mosby, the father’s girlfriend, initially told police she had put the child to bed after he was sick. She later confessed to homicide investigators that she inflicted severe abuse on the boy, including placing a lit cigarette in his ear and burning his genitals after he urinated on the floor.
Mosby also admitted to repeatedly beating the child, stomping and hitting his torso and chest when he did not obey her.
The medical examiner ruled the cause of death as homicide, noting liver lacerations, internal stomach bleeding, torso bruising, and burns to the ear and genitals. Investigators said the child’s aunt had previously observed injuries on him.
Mosby is currently being held without bond pending her next court appearance.
