ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A man is facing multiple charges after a failed bank robbery unfolded in broad daylight on Rochester’s southeast side Wednesday afternoon.
According to police, 26-year-old Divante Pitoni, who is currently homeless, entered the Chase Bank on Monroe Avenue around 2:30 p.m. and demanded money from a bank employee.
Authorities say Pitoni became aggressive, reportedly throwing a customer keypad and climbing over the counter in an attempt to access the cash register. During the commotion, he also chased tellers out of the bank.
Unable to open the register, Pitoni fled the scene on foot. Officers later spotted him near the intersection of Monroe Avenue and Meigs Street, where he was arrested without further incident.
Pitoni is now charged with attempted robbery and criminal mischief, and is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday.
