Dispur, Assam: Dispur Police have arrested a four-member theft gang and recovered stolen gold ornaments worth over Rs 10 lakh following multiple house break-ins in the city.

The incidents were reported on Tuesday from Chagalpara and Lokhra, under Basistha Police Station. Taking advantage of the homeowners’ absence, the accused carried out the burglaries in the evening. At Chagalpara, a woman’s residence was targeted, and gold ornaments valued at around Rs 10 lakh were stolen. In a separate incident at Lokhra, another home was burgled, with gold, mobile phones, and other valuables taken.

Both families filed complaints at Basistha Police Station, prompting police to register cases and launch an immediate investigation.

Authorities apprehended four notorious thieves during the probe and recovered the looted items. Police identified the mastermind of the gang as Papu Prasad, under whose direction three minors allegedly executed the thefts.
