Police have stepped up operations against theft-related crimes across the city, resulting in multiple arrests and recovery of stolen property from several locations. Teams from Dispur and Panbazar police stations conducted intelligence-led investigations that exposed organized theft rings.
In Dispur, authorities arrested three youths—Lal Biswas of Fakiragram, Ajoy Das of Bamunimaidam, and Bishal Biswakarma of Six Mile—recovering four stolen cooking gas cylinders. In a separate operation in Japorigog, Nazrul Ali and Sunil Choudhary were apprehended. Police recovered three ceiling fans and about 25 kilograms of mixed copper wire, valued at roughly Rs 1 lakh, stolen from an under-construction building.
Panbazar police, acting on credible information near Railway Gate Number Two, arrested four individuals: Ajay Tamang, Jakir Ali, Nasir Uddin, and Abhijit Sarkar. Authorities seized stolen steel doors, iron rods weighing around 40 kilograms, and tools used for breaking locks. Follow-up operations in Sukleswar led to the arrest of nine more gang members, along with the recovery of additional stolen items and weapons including knives and syringes.
Police confirmed that the arrested individuals were part of a broader network involved in repeated thefts of construction materials and metals. Investigations are ongoing to dismantle the remaining elements of the criminal operations.
