A lawsuit filed against Walt Disney World last week accuses the company of failing to prevent an incident involving Jorge Diazvega, a former employee arrested for taking up-skirt videos of women and minors during his employment at the Star Wars-themed retail store.
Lawsuit Stems from Incident Involving 14-Year-Old Girl
The lawsuit centers on an incident from March 30, 2023, when Diazvega allegedly recorded a 14-year-old girl inside the Disney retail shop. According to court documents, the child realized what was happening, began crying and screaming, and ran to a nearby bathroom.
The lawsuit also alleges that Disney was aware of prior accusations against Diazvega but failed to act. It states that a female coworker had previously reported Diazvega for filming her, yet the company did not conduct a proper investigation.
Diazvega’s Arrests for Video Voyeurism
Jorge Diazvega was arrested in April 2023 after Orange County deputies found he had more than 500 up-skirt videos of women filmed over six years at Disney. He was arrested again in June 2023 after recording under two women’s dresses at a Publix in Osceola County.
The lawsuit claims that had Disney fully investigated prior complaints, it would have discovered Diazvega’s history of video voyeurism and taken steps to protect guests and employees.
Victim’s Family Seeking Damages
The victim’s family is seeking over $50,000 in damages, arguing that Disney’s negligence allowed the traumatic incident to occur.
Disney has yet to publicly respond to the lawsuit.
