Two men were arrested for the brutal murder of Alok Agrawal (46), a former textile broker from Rajasthan, who was stabbed to death in Parvat Patia area late Saturday night. The Limbayat Police arrested Dipak Kumar Singh (35) from Uttar Pradesh and Bhagwan Swai (25) from Odisha on Sunday. A third accused, Abrar Lassi, remains absconding.
According to police, Alok was waylaid and repeatedly stabbed by a gang of three near Vatika Shopping Complex. The motive appears linked to an earlier dispute between Alok and Ashfak Kawa, a local from Kosad, who allegedly ordered the hit after a quarrel. Police suspect Alok tipped off authorities about a gambling racket, triggering the revenge attack.
Inspector N.K. Kamaliya stated that Alok’s body bore over 50 injury marks, confirming a planned and violent assault. The police took the two arrested men to the crime scene for reconstruction, drawing a crowd of hundreds from the Rajasthani community.
Tensions escalated as BJP corporator Vijay Chaumal, also from Rajasthan, demanded “UP-style” justice and tried to confront the accused during the reconstruction. He was stopped by police before the situation worsened.
Both accused were presented in Surat District Court on Monday. The police sought a 7-day remand, and the court granted a 3-day police remand till August 7.
Meanwhile, Ashfak Kawa, suspected of orchestrating the murder, remains underground, and a manhunt is underway to arrest him.
