Dioblis Williams, 25, was arrested in Framingham, Massachusetts, last month after evading capture for over five years in connection with the 2020 murder of two-year-old Ja’Mir Jones in Columbus, Ohio.
Ja’Mir was found dead in a bathtub, and the toddler’s death was ruled a homicide caused by blunt force trauma to the abdomen. Williams, who was the boyfriend of Ja’Mir’s mother and acting as his babysitter at the time, allegedly inflicted repeated beatings after the child had an accident.
Williams initially told police Ja’Mir drowned, but an autopsy revealed bruises and trauma inconsistent with drowning.
Authorities discovered Williams was hiding in Massachusetts, where he was spotted wearing a disguise including a wig and sunglasses. Framingham police arrested him on August 27 during a joint operation with the U.S. Marshals.
Williams has been returned to Ohio and arraigned on murder charges. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 19.
Ja’Mir’s great-grandmother expressed relief, saying she had prayed for justice for five years.
