Barwala police on Tuesday arrested Dilbag Singh, a resident of Kaithal, for allegedly defrauding a man of Rs48 lakh by promising to send his nephew to the United States.
The accused was produced in court and has been remanded to police custody for two days. Investigators said the remand will be used to trace the missing money, identify his accomplices, and uncover the larger network involved in the alleged immigration fraud.
The case began when an FIR was registered on March 15 following a complaint by Veerbhan, a resident of Panghal village in Hisar district. According to the complaint, Dilbag and his associates collected Rs48 lakh from him over multiple transactions, assuring him that they would arrange travel for his nephew Sandeep to the US.
Police investigations revealed that Dilbag and another agent, Vishal, illegally transported Sandeep from India to Africa, then to Brazil, and subsequently to San Salvador on a tourist visa. From there, he was moved unlawfully into the United States, where he was detained and eventually deported back to India.
Following the findings, Barwala police arrested Dilbag Singh, identified as one of the primary accused. Officers said further questioning is underway, along with efforts to recover the defrauded amount and locate the remaining suspects.
