In a major crackdown against the drug trade, Dibrugarh Police arrested four drug peddlers on Tuesday night and recovered 34.59 grams of suspected heroin from their possession during two separate operations in Dibrugarh.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Purnima Biswas (53), Abhijit Biswas (25), Sujata Rai alias Saheli (30), and Inja Hussain alias Niku (28). They have been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
According to a police official, the arrests were made after receiving a tip-off about the illegal drug trade in the Kalibari and Railway Colony areas of Dibrugarh. Police teams acted swiftly and apprehended the suspects during a coordinated operation.
In addition to the heroin, police recovered six mobile handsets and 71 small bottles of suspected heroin from Purnima Biswas’ house. The seized items were found during a thorough search, further supporting the charges of illegal drug distribution.
The police have emphasized their ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region, noting that this is just one of many operations targeting drug peddlers in Dibrugarh. Authorities have pledged to continue their crackdown until the narcotics trade is significantly disrupted in the area.
