In a significant breakthrough, Ranchi police arrested two key members of a notorious bike theft gang during a raid in the Purnapani forest near Bero early Wednesday morning.
The accused, Dhiraj Oraon alias Ratam from Bero and Deelep Singh from Gumla district, were nabbed while allegedly planning another heist. Police recovered six stolen two-wheelers, two country-made pistols, and live cartridges from their possession.
According to Bero police station in-charge Dev Pratam Pradhan, the duo is involved in multiple theft and dacoity cases across Lapung, Bero, Doranda, Pithoria, and Sukhdevnagar in Ranchi and Lohardaga districts. “They had been active for several months. These habitual offenders have created havoc, and we’ve been tracking them closely,” he added.
Two other members of the gang managed to escape during the raid. A manhunt is underway to apprehend them.
Both accused were produced in court and have been remanded to judicial custody. Investigations are ongoing to uncover further links and possible recovery of more stolen property.
