In a major case of internal fraud, the Kalamboli Police have arrested Dhanraj Bhoir (27), an employee of Hitachi Cash Management Services Pvt Ltd, for allegedly stealing Rs 1.91 crore from multiple ATMs he was assigned to service.
Bhoir, a resident of Panvel, was responsible for refilling cash at 16 ATMs across Kalamboli, Kamothe, and Kharghar between February 26 and June 30, 2025. The theft came to light during an internal audit conducted by Hitachi, which revealed serious discrepancies in the cash amounts replenished at the ATM locations.
As the cash custodian, Bhoir emerged as the prime suspect, and a criminal complaint was filed against him at Kalamboli Police Station. He was arrested from his residence in Panvel shortly after.
During police interrogation, Bhoir reportedly confessed to misappropriating the funds, although the entire stolen sum of Rs 1.91 crore remains untraced. Authorities are now investigating whether Bhoir acted alone or had accomplices.
“This is a clear case of breach of trust and financial fraud. We are conducting further inquiries to trace the missing money and identify any collaborators,” a senior officer from Kalamboli Police said.
The police are also reviewing CCTV footage and electronic logs from the affected ATMs to gather further evidence.
