In a significant breakthrough, Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested Dhani Ram, a long-wanted interstate drug kingpin, from Salooni village in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh.
According to a police spokesperson, Ram was wanted under various sections of the NDPS Act in a case registered at Chenani Police Station in Udhampur district. Based on technical, financial, and oral evidence, authorities confirmed Ram’s involvement in drug trafficking for over 10 years.
Police further revealed that Section 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been invoked against Ram — marking the first such instance under the NDPS Act, signaling a tougher legal precedent against habitual offenders.
Meanwhile, in another operation on the same day, police at Link Road Khanpur in Marheen, Kathua, arrested a local drug peddler with 6.99 grams of heroin. A case under the NDPS Act has also been registered in this incident.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to uprooting drug networks operating across state borders and called for public cooperation in reporting such crimes.
