ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WNCN) — Three men have been arrested in connection with a double homicide that occurred over the weekend in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, police confirmed Wednesday.
Authorities said Devonte Gregory Dales (22) of Rocky Mount and Trevion Jayvon Scarboro (20) of Sharpsburg were both charged with first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of Ryo Steele and La’Ren Dickens. The two victims were found dead in the parking lot of Martin Luther King Park on Virginia Street.
Dales was initially taken into custody Monday on unrelated charges and held at the Nash County Jail. He was formally charged with murder Tuesday, and is set to appear at the Edgecombe County Courthouse on Thursday, according to court records.
Scarboro was arrested the same day in Sharpsburg, with help from the Sharpsburg Police Department, and is currently held in Edgecombe County. He made his first court appearance on Wednesday.
Earlier reports confirmed the arrest of Bernard Smith (27) on Tuesday. He was also charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of La’Ren Dickens.
With these latest developments, the total number of arrests in the case now stands at three. All three suspects—Dales, Scarboro, and Smith—are being held without bond.
