Devonta Clark, Chadrick Cooper Arrested in Southern Pines Shooting

Three charged after Dec. 10 gunfire leaves one injured

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. — Three individuals have been arrested following a shooting at Brookside Park Apartments on Dec. 10, leaving one person with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Southern Pines Police Department.

Devonta Clark, 29, of Greenville, faces charges including assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, felony conspiracy, and discharging a firearm within town limits. Clark was apprehended in Pitt County.

Chadrick Cooper of Jackson Springs was also arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, felony conspiracy, and discharging a firearm within town limits. A juvenile, whose information has not been released, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill as well.

The Southern Pines Police Department thanked the Moore County District Attorney’s Office, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, Pitt County Sheriff’s Office, and U.S. Marshals Service for their assistance in the investigation.

Deputy Chief Robert Heaton confirmed that officers responded to reports of gunfire at Brookside Park Apartments around 5 p.m. on Dec. 10. Residents reported an altercation preceded the shooting, and one individual sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Witnesses described seeing hollow-point bullet casings on the ground and a stray bullet striking a vehicle tire. Children were reportedly present in the area during the incident.

Authorities say one or more suspects fled the scene in a white SUV. The investigation remains active, and further updates are expected as the case progresses.
