MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — Nearly a year after a deadly shooting in Mesa, police have arrested 18-year-old Devin Moll in connection to the death of 23-year-old Gavin Wadzinski.
The fatal incident occurred on April 21, 2024, near Teton Circle and Recker Road, just east of Power Road. Officers arrived at the scene to find Wadzinski dead on the sidewalk, his vehicle still running. No witnesses were present at the time.
Investigators later uncovered that the two had arranged to meet for a deal involving a gun with a drum magazine and marijuana. Moll, who was 17 at the time, had told Wadzinski he would be arriving in a white Nissan Altima.
Surveillance footage helped investigators identify Moll’s vehicle by its distinctive headlight pattern, which matched traffic camera footage near the crime scene. Authorities also traced Moll through his social media, where he had discussed selling guns, marijuana, and vape cartridges.
In a police interview, Moll admitted to meeting Wadzinski for the sale. He claimed Wadzinski handed over cash while keeping his hands in his sweatshirt pockets and remained silent. Moll told investigators that Wadzinski then made a sudden motion, leading him to believe he was about to be robbed — prompting Moll to shoot him. Moll fled the scene as Wadzinski clutched his chest.
On Tuesday, Moll was taken into custody and booked for second-degree murder. He is currently held on a $1 million bond.
