A Cohoes man, Devaughn Hall, 32, has been sentenced to 10-14 years in state prison after being convicted for two separate burglaries in Albany. On Wednesday, he was handed a sentence in Albany County Court, which includes eight years for Burglary in the Second Degree, followed by five years of post-release supervision. Additionally, he received an indeterminate sentence of two to six years for Burglary in the Third Degree, with the sentences to run consecutively.
Hall was convicted after a jury deliberated for less than an hour on February 5. The case revolved around a burglary that occurred on December 19, 2023, at a Dana Avenue apartment. The victim, who had just returned from an evening shift, found over $50,000 worth of jewelry, handbags, and purses missing from her apartment.
According to Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon, law enforcement initially had little evidence to arrest Hall. However, a break in the case occurred when Hall was caught on a security camera stealing packages from an apartment building on South Lake Avenue. The video footage clearly showed Hall’s face, with distinctive facial tattoos, red dreadlocks, facial hair, and piercings.
This lead led the police to secure a search warrant for Hall’s Cohoes home on February 15, 2024. Inside, they found the exact items reported stolen by the victim, including some ornate jewelry, which was worn by Hall’s wife. Despite Hall attempting to hide his identity by shaving off his dreadlocks and covering his tattoos with makeup before the trial, the jury convicted him on all charges.
