GRADY COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — A routine traffic stop turned into a major drug trafficking arrest in Grady County on June 18, 2025, according to the Grady County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies stopped a vehicle on U.S. Highway 319 for speeding and identified the driver as Devarius Kelly, 37, of Tallahassee, Florida. During a probable cause search of the vehicle, deputies discovered packaged marijuana and MDMA (ecstasy) along with digital scales, suggesting an intent to distribute.

In addition to the narcotics, deputies found an assault rifle inside the vehicle.

Kelly was arrested at the scene without incident and now faces multiple felony charges, including:

Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute

Trafficking in MDMA

Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime

Sheriff Earl Prince praised his deputies, stating:

“Our office takes a zero-tolerance approach when it comes to illegal drugs and weapons in our community. We will continue to aggressively pursue those who bring this poison into Grady County.”

The investigation is ongoing.
