Nellore: The Vedayapalem Police have arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly impersonating a Crime Branch officer and cheating several individuals by promising government jobs in the forest department.
The accused, identified as Devalla Sai Krishna (28), is alleged to have collected nearly Rs51 lakh from multiple victims through online transfers and cash payments without providing any employment. His father, Polayya (51), has also been arrested for allegedly assisting him in carrying out the fraud.
The case came to light after Vinod Kumar Thoopili, a resident of New Military Colony in Nellore, lodged a complaint stating that Sai Krishna posed as a government official and deceived him. Following the complaint, police registered a case and launched an investigation.
Sai Krishna was arrested on Thursday. During the operation, police recovered several items allegedly used for impersonation. These included fake ID cards bearing the name of Sai Krishna as a Crime Inspector, Crime Branch, Vijayawada, and another in the name of Dr J Sai Pardha Saradhi Reddy, described as a senior neuro and ortho doctor.
Officers also seized police-style clothing and accessories such as brown shoes, khaki socks, khaki pants, photographs of the accused in police uniform, two stethoscopes, a fake vehicle number plate displaying the three-headed lion emblem with a “POLICE” inscription, a green pen, a brown belt marked “APF,” a badge marked “APP,” a police display board, and five cars fitted with fake police number plates.
Police said the accused used these materials to create the impression of being a senior officer to gain the trust of victims seeking government employment.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to identify other potential victims and accomplices involved in the job fraud network.
