Des Moines Man Arrested After Violent Robbery During Online Marketplace Deal

Jonah Goy Ruiy faces charges for assaulting victim during cellphone exchange

by Amelia Crawford

A Des Moines man, Jonah Goy Ruiy, 20, was arrested and booked into the Polk County Jail on Monday after allegedly robbing a victim during a pre-arranged online marketplace transaction.

Ruiy met two individuals at a convenience store on Keosauqua Way on Monday afternoon after agreeing to buy a cellphone through an online marketplace. According to police, Ruiy requested to inspect the phone but then fled the scene without making the payment.

One of the victims chased after Ruiy while the other contacted the authorities. Police say Ruiy violently assaulted one of the victims before officers arrived at the scene.

As a result, Ruiy is facing charges of second-degree robbery, a felony offense.

This incident follows a similar robbery case from October, when a person was held at gunpoint during a Facebook Marketplace exchange at a Walmart in Windsor Heights.
