SAN ANTONIO, TX — A Bexar County sheriff’s deputy, Abel Munoz Sifuentes, 29, was arrested Thursday for allegedly assaulting a female deputy he was in a relationship with, officials confirmed.

Sifuentes faces charges of assault causing bodily injury to a family member, according to court documents. The allegations surfaced during the woman’s exit interview after she resigned from the sheriff’s office.

The couple had been together for four years and share a child. The victim reported that in May 2024, while she was asleep at home with their child, Sifuentes came home from his shift, grabbed her by the shirt, lifted her off the bed, and pushed her against a wall, causing injuries. She also alleged he struck her face.

She provided investigators with photographs of her injuries. Following the interview, authorities secured an arrest warrant for Sifuentes, who was taken into custody while on duty.

Sifuentes, who joined the sheriff’s office in July 2017, has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. He declined to comment and was served with a letter proposing his termination.

Sheriff Javier Salazar stated,

“Our Public Integrity Unit acted swiftly upon uncovering these allegations to make the arrest. Domestic violence has no place in society, much less in law enforcement. We have already started dismissal proceedings against this soon-to-be former employee.”
