Deon Taplin Arrested After High-Speed Chase in Columbus County

Suspect charged after ramming deputy’s truck, causing it to flip

CHADBOURN, NC (WWAY) — A 29-year-old man, Deon Taplin, faces multiple charges after leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase that ended in a crash on Monday night in Columbus County.

According to an arrest warrant, a deputy attempted to pull Taplin over for running a stop sign. Instead of stopping, Taplin allegedly rammed the deputy’s truck, causing it to flip over. Three deputies inside the truck suffered minor injuries.

The pursuit continued into Chadbourn, where Taplin ultimately crashed and was taken into custody.

Charges Against Taplin:
Fleeing/eluding arrest with a motor vehicle
Assault with a deadly weapon on government officers/employees
Failure to maintain lane control
Three counts of failure to stop at a stop sign/red light
Driving with a revoked license
Taplin is currently held without bond as authorities continue their investigation.
