A 60-year-old senior care assistant, Denyse Crane, has been sentenced to prison after scamming a vulnerable man out of £29,000 from his inheritance. Crane had been caring for the man at his home in Hagley, near Stourbridge, for two years. The crime took place after the man received a significant family inheritance in 2020, which marked the beginning of Crane’s exploitation.
Over the next three years, Crane took advantage of her position by persuading the man to sign blank cheques under false pretenses. She also withdrew £250 at a time from his account. Worcester Crown Court heard that she had stolen a total of £29,000 from the elderly man.
Crane appeared in court on Monday, where she pleaded guilty to a single charge of fraud. She has now been sentenced for her actions, which left the vulnerable man deprived of a substantial portion of his inheritance.
