NASHVILLE – After a six-month investigation by the MNPD Fraud Unit, 28-year-old Demonte Trammell was arrested today on nearly 30 criminal charges, including forgery, theft, and identity theft.
Detectives, with help from the U.S. Postal Service, identified Trammell as the suspect in at least 10 incidents involving stolen mail from USPS collection boxes. Authorities say he took checks from the mail, altered the amounts through a process called “check washing,” and then attempted to cash them at local banks.
Trammell was apprehended in a parking garage on Demonbreun Street, where he reportedly tried to evade officers from the Central Precinct. He now faces multiple indictments related to his alleged crimes.
