Birmingham, Ala. (WIAT) — A suspect has been arrested in connection with a double homicide in Birmingham on Thursday night. The Birmingham Police Department responded to a shots-fired call just after 7:30 p.m. in the 4900 block of 41st St. N. Upon arrival, officers found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel confirmed the victims’ deaths at the scene.
The victims have been identified as 34-year-old Teddy Edward Lee Jr. and 33-year-old Brittany Taylor Brewer. The Special Enforcement Division’s Crime Reduction Team (CRT) quickly identified Demetrius Walton, 43, as the suspect and apprehended him within hours of the investigation’s start.
Walton was located in the 4900 block of 43rd St. N. and taken into custody without incident. On Saturday, after reviewing the case information, detectives presented the evidence to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. As a result, a warrant was obtained for Walton’s arrest on charges of Capital Murder. Walton is currently being held at the Jefferson County Jail without bond.
