LIVONIA, Mich. — A 19-year-old man, Demerious Whiteside, has been arrested and charged with larceny after a theft occurred in the Livonia Police Department’s parking lot on February 18.

Authorities said the incident happened just before 7 p.m. when two individuals arranged to meet in the parking lot to complete a sale set up online.

During the transaction, the buyer handed over the cash without inspecting the phones, and the seller, later identified as Whiteside, drove away with more than $1,000.

Whiteside was arrested on Thursday, February 26, and arraigned the following day. His bond was set at $15,000, and his next court appearance is scheduled for April 6.

Police are reminding residents to exercise caution during online transactions, especially when meeting in person.
