SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) — Shreveport police responded to a violent disturbance during a Head Start graduation ceremony on the morning of Monday, May 12, shortly after 10 a.m.
The incident occurred on St. Vincent Avenue, where officers discovered that a fight had broken out between two individuals during the event. After the initial confrontation, one of the individuals, later identified as Demarcusse Brown, left the premises, only to return shortly after with a stolen firearm, escalating the situation.
Brown was immediately taken into custody. He now faces multiple charges, including:
Possession of a firearm on school property
Possession of a stolen firearm
Disturbing the peace by fighting
Authorities also confirmed that Brown had an outstanding warrant for domestic abuse battery.
The second individual involved in the altercation was issued a summons for disturbing the peace by fighting.
Fortunately, no children or parents were injured during the incident. Police say the situation was quickly contained, and the graduation event did not suffer further disruption.
