The Delhi Police have successfully solved a burglary case and arrested two suspects with the help of advanced facial recognition system (FRS) technology. The stolen items, including Rs 5.87 lakh in cash, diamonds, and pearls from the broken jewelry, were also recovered.
The incident occurred on February 16 when a PCR call alerted the police about a burglary at a residence in Mukherjee Nagar, located in Northwest Delhi. The complainant, Naveen Kumar Chopra, reported that gold items were stolen from his home. Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered, and a thorough investigation commenced.
A police team reviewed CCTV footage from the scene and identified a clear image of the suspect. By using FRS technology, the suspect was pinpointed as Imran, a 28-year-old habitual offender from Timarpur, who had a history of theft-related crimes.
A raid was then conducted at Imran’s village, where he was apprehended. During his interrogation, Imran confessed to the crime and revealed that the stolen jewelry had been sold to a goldsmith named Sachin Verma, aged 36.
Based on this information, the police were able to recover Rs 5.87 lakh in cash and several pieces of stolen jewelry, including diamonds and pearls. Further investigation led to the arrest of Verma, who was found with fragments of the stolen jewelry.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Bhisham Singh stated that the swift action of the police and the use of facial recognition technology were key in solving the case and bringing the culprits to justice.
