According to police, the girl had left her Darbhanga home on May 6 after a quarrel with her mother, intending to visit her maternal aunt in Delhi. During her journey, Kumar approached her at Chhapra Railway Station, offering help and persuading her to travel with him.

Upon arrival at New Delhi, Kumar allegedly tried to forcibly take the girl with him and threatened to sell her forRs₹2 lakh if she resisted. Police intervened just in time to rescue the girl and arrest Kumar.

A case has been registered at Kamla Market Police Station under Sections 137(2) and 144(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relating to kidnapping and exploitation of a trafficked person. Investigations are ongoing to explore potential links to a wider trafficking network.
