In a significant development, the West District Police of Delhi have arrested 25-year-old Akshay, a habitual offender linked to over 24 cases of burglary and theft across the city.
The arrest came after a burglary reported on June 7 in Tilak Nagar. The victim returned home late at night and went to bed around 2:15 a.m. The following morning, his mother discovered the almirah in the bedroom had been broken into, with cash and valuable jewellery missing. A removed window plank suggested forced entry.
Acting swiftly, the Tilak Nagar Police registered an FIR and formed a special team under the supervision of Inspector Bineet Kumar Pandey and the guidance of ACP Tilak Nagar. The team, including SI Mohit, SI Sunil, HC Rajbir, HC Sewa Singh, and HC Sandeep, launched an investigation.
Using CCTV footage and intelligence, the team identified Akshay, son of Suraj Bhan, a resident of Vikas Puri. A raid at his home led to his immediate arrest. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and revealed the stolen items’ location.
Police recovered six gold chains, four gold kadas, three bangles, five rings, six pairs of earrings, one gold necklace, two pairs of silver anklets, and Rs1.5 lakh in cash.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, West District, Vichitra Veer confirmed Akshay’s involvement in numerous cases and stated that his arrest may help solve many unresolved burglaries.
The investigation remains ongoing as police explore further links to other crimes.
