The Delhi Police have filed a chargesheet against cab driver Lum Shankar, associated with an app-based cab service, for allegedly assaulting a 22-year-old Ambedkar University student during a ride in September.

Police reported that the cab company initially refused to share the driver’s details, citing privacy concerns. The chargesheet, submitted earlier this month, lists 18 witnesses, including police officers and doctors who examined the victim.

The incident occurred on September 8, when the student, originally from Bengaluru, booked a cab from Kalyan Vihar to her university. She alleged that Lum Shankar touched her inappropriately on her thigh and was performing a sexual act while seated in the driver’s seat.

The victim explained that she sat in the front passenger seat due to motion sickness. When she asked the driver to stop, he initially refused, later halting the cab, asking her to get out, and then speeding away. She immediately approached nearby police personnel and was taken to Maurice Nagar police station to file a written complaint after consulting family and friends.

The complainant contacted the cab company to obtain the driver’s details, but they initially declined. Police later reached out, and the company provided the necessary information. Lum Shankar was subsequently summoned to the station and arrested.

CCTV footage annexed with the chargesheet shows the cab stopping near Ramjas College around 9:45 am before proceeding toward Kranti Chowk, corroborating the victim’s statement. The cab driver remains in judicial custody.
