In a major breakthrough, the Delhi Police on Sunday announced the busting of an interstate drug trafficking ring. The operation resulted in the arrest of two suppliers and the seizure of 156 kilograms of ganja (cannabis), valued at approximately Rs 78 lakh in the international market.

The Crime Branch of Delhi Police launched a targeted crackdown following specific intelligence inputs. On February 24, a police team set up a trap near the Raja Garden flyover, where they intercepted Vijay Singh (43), a resident of Rajasthan, who was driving an SUV. A search of his vehicle led to the discovery of 75 plastic sacks containing ganja.

During questioning, Vijay revealed that he was acting as a carrier for Vineet, a drug trafficker who procured the contraband from Nagpur. Vineet’s role in the network was identified as delivering the drugs to key distributors. One of these distributors was Amit, a resident of Soniya Vihar in Delhi, who was arrested on February 28. Investigations revealed that Amit, a close relative of Vineet, had been pivotal in distributing cannabis to buyers across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR).

Amit’s criminal history also surfaced during the investigation. He had previously been involved in four excise cases and even a rape case, indicating his significant criminal background. His current role in the broader drug network is under further investigation by the police.

The seizure and arrests mark a significant blow to an interstate drug racket and highlight the ongoing efforts of the Delhi Police to tackle the increasing drug trade in the region. The investigation is continuing, with authorities working to uncover the full extent of the network’s operations.
