Delhi Police have busted a snatching gang operating in Rohini and adjoining areas, arresting seven people, including mediators and receivers of stolen items.

Police recovered 26 robbed mobile phones, a stolen motorcycle used in crimes, a dismantled two-wheeler, and a laptop used to reprogram devices from the accused.

The case was cracked following a snatching incident on July 10 near C Bakery, Rohini Sector 6-7, where a woman was targeted by two motorcycle-borne assailants. Two suspects, Pawan alias Lalla (25) and Abhitesh Gautam alias Cheedi (18), both from Karawal Nagar, were initially arrested.

Interrogation led to the arrest of Hemant alias Hemu (18), a mediator. The gang sourced stolen bikes through Vitul (24), who has prior theft cases, and conducted snatchings with Diwakar Sharma alias Paltu (25), previously booked for robbery and attempted murder.

The stolen phones were routed through Hemant to a receiver network. Additional arrests included Atul (19), Vitul’s brother, and Babar Malik (34), a phone shop owner in Baghpat, UP. Police recovered four iPhones and a laptop used to tamper with IMEIs.

Authorities confirmed that 17 cases have been linked to the gang so far, and further investigation is ongoing.
