Delhi Police have successfully busted a mobile tower scam, arresting two individuals who were running a fraudulent scheme. The Cyber Crime police station in the outer north district arrested Sarfaraz and Monnu, both fake website developers, for their involvement in the scam.
According to police, the fraudsters designed and promoted fake websites, luring victims with promises of mobile tower installations on their properties in exchange for a hefty registration fee. Once the fees were paid, the victims would no longer receive any communication, and the fraudsters would disappear.
The total amount defrauded from victims, as per one reported case, was Rs1,85,650. The victim, Sonu, from Pooth Khurd, Delhi, was contacted by the fraudsters, who convinced him to pay registration fees after falsely claiming they would install a mobile tower on his property. Once he paid, the fraudsters ceased all communication.
Police seized two mobile phones and four laptops used to design over 50 fake websites. They also tracked the fraudsters using call details, bank accounts, and host registration details from Hostinger.
The police have stated that a large network of cyber crooks is involved in this racket, and further raids are being conducted across Haryana to catch additional suspects.
