Delhi Police’s crime branch has arrested three members of an inter-state vehicle theft and fraud gang, recovering a total of 16 stolen vehicles in the operation.
The investigation began following the theft of a car from Pitampura in August last year. During the probe, police received intelligence that a receiver of stolen vehicles was operating from Jalandhar, Punjab, holding several cars stolen from Delhi.
Acting on the tip-off, a police team raided a second-hand vehicle business on December 25 and apprehended 42-year-old Damandeep Singh. Four stolen vehicles were recovered from his premises.
Subsequently, two more gang members were arrested: Arvind Sharma, 38, who allegedly prepared forged vehicle documents, and Amandeep Singh, 39, who acted as a link between buyers and sellers. Based on information provided by the accused, additional stolen vehicles were recovered, bringing the total to 16.
Police investigations are ongoing to dismantle the larger inter-state network.
