Delhi Police have arrested a 22-year-old delivery agent, Kishan from Dwarkapuri, for allegedly defrauding major e-commerce platforms Amazon and Flipkart by sending fake return packages. Kishan was reportedly working for two different delivery companies simultaneously.
The police initiated an investigation after receiving an e-FIR alleging manipulation in the returns process. Genuine products sent back by customers were replaced with old or used items, which were accepted as valid returns by the companies, leading to significant financial losses.
Using technical surveillance and field intelligence, authorities traced Kishan to Rajapuri, Uttam Nagar, where he was apprehended. Police seized 38 counterfeit return items from him, including a tablet, a mobile phone, 22 clothing packets, watches, slippers, shoes, and other miscellaneous packages.
Investigators revealed that Kishan bypassed standard quality checks by directly submitting tampered packages to company warehouses, thus undermining customer trust and costing the platforms heavily.
The seized goods have been confiscated, and legal proceedings are underway. Police are investigating if others were involved in the scam. The Dwarka District Police urged e-commerce firms to improve their verification systems to prevent such fraudulent activities in the future.
This case echoes a similar incident in Bengaluru last year, where a delivery agent was caught on CCTV stealing a food parcel left at a customer’s doorstep.
