Delhi Police have arrested four men for duping a victim of over Rs 17 lakh in a pan-India work-from-home scam. The accused — Ankur Mishra (22), Kratarth (21), Vishwash Sharma (32), and Ketan Mishra (18) — lured victims through social media by offering lucrative online jobs, promising earnings for reviewing websites.
According to DCP (Southwest) Amit Goel, the victim was initially paid Rs 50 per review. Gradually, the accused persuaded him to participate in prepaid cryptocurrency transactions under the promise of higher returns. Over time, they kept demanding more deposits, ultimately cheating him of Rs 17.49 lakh.
Police investigations revealed that at least Rs 5 lakh had been routed from the complainant’s accounts via these fake crypto schemes. A case was registered under the relevant sections of the BNS Act, and further tracing of the fraud network is underway.
This case highlights the rising trend of online job scams, where criminals exploit victims’ desire to earn money from home using cryptocurrency and fake employment offers.
