A Delhi man, Akshay Sharma, 40, has been arrested for allegedly running a sophisticated travel scam that duped hundreds of international travellers and airline companies. Sharma, director of AVS Holidays and a resident of Kirti Nagar, used a fake call centre, forged death certificates, and a travel agency front to book and cancel tickets, pocketing the refunds, Delhi Police said on Wednesday.
The scam involved generating fake travel bookings and cancelling them under false pretenses, causing significant financial losses to airlines and duping unsuspecting customers. The Delhi Police Special Cell arrested Sharma on Tuesday following an investigation into the fraudulent operations of the fake travel agency.
