EASTPOINTE, Mich. – A 21-year-old Detroit man, Dejuan Jermain Taylor, has been charged in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in the parking lot of a Foot Locker on Kelly Road and 8 Mile Road on Saturday, May 3. The incident left two people dead and two others injured, including Taylor himself.
According to Eastpointe police, the altercation began when Taylor and his 19-year-old sister encountered another group of individuals in the parking lot. An argument escalated into a physical fight. Taylor was allegedly overpowered, beaten to the ground, and one member of the group had a gun.
In response, Taylor’s sister retrieved a firearm and allegedly opened fire on the group, fatally shooting two people and wounding another, as well as unintentionally injuring Taylor.
Following the shooting, Taylor allegedly got up, took a gun and magazines from one of the injured individuals, and fled the scene with his sister. Authorities say Taylor’s sister later turned herself in through her attorney on Monday, May 5.
Taylor has been charged with the following:
Tampering with evidence – up to 10 years in prison
Firearms larceny – up to 5 years
Carrying a concealed weapon – up to 5 years
Larceny under $200 – up to 93 days
Taylor was arraigned in 38th Eastpointe District Court with a bond set at $250,000 cash/surety. If released, he must wear a steel-cuff GPS tether.
His probable cause conference is scheduled for May 20, 2025, at 1 p.m., and the preliminary examination is set for May 27, 2025, also at 1 p.m.
The shooting left one man dead at the scene. Two others were transported to a Metro Detroit hospital, where one later died. A fourth victim arrived separately at the same hospital for treatment.
