JOLIET, Ill. – A violent stabbing incident in Joliet has led to the arrest of 32-year-old Dejon Weems, a Plainfield resident, who allegedly attacked a man with a knife, leaving him in critical condition.
According to the Joliet Police Department, officers responded just before 4:30 p.m. Saturday to the intersection of Cass Street and Eastern Avenue after receiving reports of a stabbing. Upon arrival, police discovered a 59-year-old man who had suffered over ten stab wounds.
The suspect, later identified as Weems, fled the scene but was apprehended shortly after in the 200 block of Benton Street. During the arrest, officers recovered a small sword-like blade and a pocketknife from his possession.
Investigators believe the stabbing occurred during a physical altercation at the intersection. The victim was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center by Joliet Fire Department paramedics and remains in critical but stable condition.
Weems has been charged with attempted murder and is currently being held at the Will County Adult Detention Facility as the investigation continues.
