Deibbys Cardoso, an undocumented Cuban national, was arrested on September 8 after allegedly stealing a car in Broward County and driving it into Martin County, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.
The 31-year-old suspect was apprehended by deputies shortly after crossing into Martin County from Broward, where the vehicle was reportedly stolen. Authorities tracked the car along Florida’s Treasure Coast and took Cardoso into custody without incident.
Officials confirmed that Cardoso is in the United States illegally and has a lengthy criminal record spanning multiple states, including Georgia and Florida. Although exact details of his past offenses were not disclosed, deputies described it as a pattern of repeat criminal behavior.
Cardoso was booked into the Martin County Jail on a grand theft auto charge. Officials said additional charges may be pending, particularly as investigations continue in Broward County, where the theft originated.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office is currently working with other law enforcement agencies to determine whether Cardoso is connected to additional crimes across jurisdictions.
