Dehradun police arrested Sanjay Gusain (45), wanted in connection with a murder case, following an encounter late Saturday night in Rishikesh, officials said on Sunday.
Gusain, a resident of Rishikesh, had been on the run since the death of a 54-year-old woman whose decomposed body was found near the IDPL ground on January 19. CCTV footage revealed the woman was last seen on December 22 leaving a local hospital with Gusain riding on his two-wheeler.
Dehradun SSP Ajai Singh stated, “Police stopped a man riding a two-wheeler without a registration plate at a checkpoint on Saturday night. The suspect fled towards Dehradun, abandoned the vehicle, and fired at officers. The police returned fire, injuring him in the leg. He was arrested and taken for medical treatment.”
During interrogation, Gusain claimed the victim sought his help through tantric rituals for treatment, which led to an argument resulting in the murder. Investigations are ongoing. Gusain has a criminal record with at least 27 cases, including murder, robbery, and burglary.
