Two men, Deepak Kumar (31) and Yogesh Kumar (30), were arrested following a gunfight with police in Chirag Delhi, south Delhi, on Thursday. They are accused of shooting dead 24-year-old businessman Arun Lohiya near the Chhatarpur metro station three weeks ago.
During their interrogation, police uncovered the identity of the main conspirator, Ajay (27), who was subsequently arrested from Pushp Vihar.
The victim, Arun Lohiya, who traded in scrap material, was attacked on May 15 while returning from a court hearing with his father, Rambir Lohiya, 50. The shooting took place on a busy Mehrauli road, where two men opened fire, discharging 10-12 rounds. The attack is believed to stem from a longstanding property dispute between the accused and the victim.
Police analyzed CCTV footage and shared images of the suspects within law enforcement networks and informants. This led to tracking the accused to the Chirag Delhi-Khanpur area.
At around 3 am, police spotted the suspects on a bike and attempted to arrest them. The men tried to flee but fell from the vehicle. When ordered to surrender, they opened fire, hitting a police head constable’s bullet-proof jacket. Police returned fire, injuring both men in the leg before arresting them.
Further questioning led to the capture of Ajay, who is believed to have planned the murder.
