Delhi Police arrested Deepak alias Pankaj, the prime accused in the brutal murder of a septuagenarian couple, Mohinder Singh Talwar (71) and Daljeet Kaur (70), in Kohat Enclave, Pitampura. Deepak had been on the run since the crime on March 16 and was arrested from Dwarka Mor on Saturday after police received intelligence about his hiding location in an ashram.
Police officials confirmed the arrest and stated that they recovered three forged identity cards from Deepak. The couple was found murdered in their home, with their bodies showing signs of being strangled with a nebulizer pipe and attacked with a rod. The house had been ransacked, and the locker had been broken open.
Talwar, a former successful businessman in the readymade clothes industry, had retired with his wife to live a quiet life. Ravi, their former caretaker, was arrested from Uttam Nagar on Wednesday after confessing to his involvement in orchestrating the robbery. He claimed he had been upset after the couple terminated his services two months ago and had targeted them to pay off a significant debt.
Ravi admitted to sending Deepak to the couple’s house under a false identity, instructing him to steal jewellery and cash. Deepak executed the plan quickly, carrying out the theft and fleeing with the loot. CCTV footage captured Deepak leaving the house with a backpack around 5:15 am on March 18.
The crime was discovered by the couple’s daughter-in-law, who went to check on them and found their bodies in separate rooms. The family had employed Ravi as a caretaker for Talwar’s Parkinson’s disease but had terminated his services when his condition improved, later re-employing him when his health deteriorated.
Police are continuing their investigation as Deepak and Ravi remain central to unraveling the full extent of the crime.
