Blake Herring accused of hatchet attack during PNC robbery

by Amelia Crawford

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — Blake Herring, 22, of Dearborn Heights, was charged after allegedly robbing a PNC bank near 12 Mile and Franklin roads on July 1. During the robbery, Herring reportedly wielded a hatchet, striking an employee in the head before demanding money. She also brandished a handgun during the incident.

Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren noted that Herring’s actions were captured on security footage, showing her purchasing the hatchet hours earlier and practicing with it before the robbery. Police believe she initially hesitated before entering the bank.

Herring was arrested on July 2, facing charges of bank robbery and assault with intent to murder. Her bond is set at $2 million cash or surety. Police recovered approximately $2,500 in cash from her home and car.

The victim is recovering at home after hospitalization, and police confirm this was her first violent incident, despite a prior history of traffic violations. Herring is scheduled to appear in court on July 17.
