Davenport, Iowa — A 57-year-old woman has been arrested after allegedly setting a fire outside a Kwik Star in Davenport and later threatening police officers with a knife, authorities said.
Around 11 p.m. on October 3, the Davenport Fire Department responded to reports of a blaze near the liquid propane storage cage at the Kwik Star on East Kimberly Road. Witnesses told officials they saw flames near the propane tanks and used a fire extinguisher to control most of the fire before firefighters arrived.
When crews reached the scene, they found light smoke coming from the propane storage area and quickly extinguished the remaining flames.
During the investigation, authorities determined that the fire appeared to have been intentionally set. A short time later, a woman matching the suspect’s description returned to the location, threatened officers with a knife, and attempted to ignite gas pumps, according to officials.
Police subdued the suspect and took her into custody. She was identified as Deanne M. Chanee, 57, and booked into the Scott County Jail. Chanee faces multiple charges, including first- and second-degree arson, assault on a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, interference with a weapon, and interference with official acts.
No injuries were reported. The investigation remains active, and police have not released additional details.
