MEMPHIS, Tenn. — DeAndre Brown, a well-known advocate for criminal justice reform and current director of the Shelby County Office of Re-Entry, was arrested Wednesday after being indicted on multiple criminal charges.
A grand jury indicted Brown, 50, on 12 felony counts, including property theft, computer crimes, money laundering, and official misconduct, stemming from alleged actions that took place between 2020 and 2023.
Brown, a former inmate who once dedicated his life to helping others break free from the cycle of incarceration, was pardoned in 2023 by Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, alongside 22 others. His work focused on reintegration services, helping former inmates secure jobs and rebuild their lives.
He is also the founder and former Executive Director of LIFEline to Success, a nonprofit committed to supporting ex-offenders, and serves as pastor of LifeLine to a Dying World Ministries.
Authorities also announced that his wife, Vinessa Brown, was indicted on related charges, though specific details about her alleged involvement were not immediately released.
Both are expected to face court proceedings in Shelby County. Further information about the investigation has not yet been disclosed.
