WICHITA FALLS — A Windthorst man with multiple outstanding warrants was arrested after leading law enforcement on a motorcycle chase through Wichita Falls.
David Sorrells faces charges of theft of property exceeding $2,500 with prior convictions and evading arrest with a vehicle. He also has warrants for possession, criminal mischief, trespassing, evading arrest, detention, and vehicle burglary.
On June 4, 2025, special agents from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), Wichita Falls Police Department detectives, and Home Depot asset protection officers were conducting surveillance to identify theft suspects when they spotted Sorrells.
Officials recognized Sorrells from his warrants and parole violation with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Authorities observed him leave the tool rental section, present a Lowe’s receipt to a clerk, then walk out of the store with a 1.25-gallon oil bottle and safety glasses without paying.
When confronted by asset protection, Sorrells dropped the items and fled on a blue motorcycle. Law enforcement pursued him as he headed toward Academy Sports + Outdoors.
A DPS trooper attempted a traffic stop as Sorrells sped north on Grant Street. He made multiple turns and eventually lost control of the motorcycle, crashing in a yard on the 2700 block of Grant.
Sorrells tried to escape on foot but was apprehended by troopers and special agents.
He is currently held at Wichita County Law Enforcement Center on bonds totaling $33,500 and is also being detained without bond for a parole violation.
