David Newton Jailed for Life After Murder of Una Crown

WISBECH, CAMBRIDGESHIRE – David Newton, 70, was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of 86-year-old Una Crown, who was brutally attacked in her own home on January 13, 2013. The attack, described as “ferocious and sustained,” involved Newton stabbing Mrs. Crown four times and slashing her throat.

Her body was found in her bungalow in Wisbech by family members, but the death was not initially considered suspicious. It wasn’t until two days later, after a post-mortem, that her death was deemed a homicide. Newton, who had previously been arrested and released, was charged in 2023 following a DNA breakthrough.

Judge Mr. Justice Garnham stated that Newton had a history of entering homes uninvited, and that Mrs. Crown must have been “utterly terrified” before her death. Newton has been sentenced to a minimum of 21 years in jail before he is eligible for parole.
