CAMPBELL, OH – Just weeks after being hired as bailiff for the Campbell Municipal Court, David Horvath was arrested early Sunday morning on a drug charge.

Horvath, who was hired on July 7, was pulled over by Campbell police around 1 a.m. on Wilson Avenue near 2nd Street. Officers reported that his vehicle was weaving and nearly left the roadway. Horvath claimed he was swerving to avoid a pothole.

According to the police report, officers requested Horvath exit the vehicle to allow a K-9 unit to conduct a sniff test. During a pat-down, officers discovered a cut straw with white residue, which Horvath claimed he used for nasal medication. A further search revealed a bag of suspected drugs in his pocket.

Horvath told officers the bag wasn’t his and that a friend had given it to him to hold. Field testing indicated the substance was positive for cocaine.

He was taken into custody and booked into the Mahoning County Jail.

Judge Mark Kolmacic of the Campbell Municipal Court declined to comment when contacted by media. Horvath is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday at 9 a.m.
