David Baker Arrested for Sexual Assault and Robbery at Daytona Beach Motel

David Baker, 44, was arrested by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office on Saturday after being accused of committing sexual assault and robbery against a woman staying at a motel in Daytona Beach. Baker, who has a long history of arrests in Volusia County, is currently being held without bond at the Volusia County Branch Jail as of Monday.

The Volusia Sheriff’s Office (VSO) reported that they received a call at around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday about a disturbing incident at the Motel 6 on International Speedway Blvd. The victim told authorities that while she was sitting in her car, she was suddenly confronted at gunpoint, forced into the back seat, and assaulted by her attacker. After the assault, the suspect allegedly stole her cell phones and some cash before fleeing the scene on foot.

Following the victim’s description of the attacker’s appearance and clothing, detectives launched an investigation. One of the VSO lieutenants later spotted Baker at a nearby Days Inn. The victim was shown a photo of Baker, and she confirmed that he was the man who had attacked her.

A search of Baker’s room at the Days Inn revealed a pellet gun and the victim’s stolen cell phones. Baker has been charged with armed robbery, theft, and cocaine possession, with further charges pending as DNA tests are conducted.

Baker’s prior criminal record in Volusia County includes charges of assault and battery with a deadly weapon, burglary, domestic battery, aggravated battery on a pregnant person, grand theft, introduction of contraband into a detention facility, and fleeing or eluding law enforcement, among others.
